I was in Florida last winter in Boca Raton. They have
store there called "Fresh Market". It was fabulous.
They had a huge variety of what I call "one person
meals" and quick "grab a meal and go" stuff. A big
variety of specialty breads, mustards, jams, vinegars
and nice desserts. Sort of like Lunds or Byerlys delis
and some Wedgy type of goods.

There was a great urban store in San Franciso too. I
could stop by and pick up dinner on my way home from
work. It was right on the walk home.

These were great little stores. Of course in Florida
and California, you can buy your wine in the grocery
store. Loved that aspect.

At any rate, I hope we get creative here and remember
who our downtown residents are. They are professional
people with busy lives and very urban, or they are
commuters who just want to pick stuff up on the way
home from work. They aren't going to carry 16 bags of
groceries with them on the bus. This area doesn't need
a Cub or Rainbow. That sort of store wouldn't work
there. The last thing downtown needs is the same
thing they have everywhere else.

Remember, the Great Northern Market did very well in
downtown for many years.
