And the reality is that we are a car culture now. I lived in London for a year. The tube was wonderful, but the "urban center" was also a fraction of the size of our metro area. Partially because of an imposed green ring. If Mpls/St. Paul area had said 50 years ago, "No urban development outside of 494/694 loop" and then stuck to it. But we didn't, and we are in a different boat now. Afterall, we are Americans, with "endless resources" and the ability to use/misuse everything around us. As for your suggestion that we drive cars better to the environment, I'm already there. Last spring I boughta little Honda Civic VX which gets 45 mpg through the mountains and in town, and about 48 mpg on the highway. Seats four people comfortably, hatchback carries my thrift store/rummage sale finds, etc. If only Honda made their hybrid in a hatchback/4 door like the VW GTI, I'd be trading in my 1995 for a better version. But when I called Honda to inquire, they told me there was no demand, but were introducing a larger car like the Toyota Matrix (25 mpg). -- Kim ____________________________________________________________ Kimberly Goodman Phone: 612-823-4488 3649 Park Avenue Fax: 612-823-3194 Minneapolis, MN 55407 [EMAIL PROTECTED] ____________________________________________________________ _______________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - A City-focused Civic Discussion - Mn E-Democracy Post messages to: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
