Title: Spin Control for THIRD WARD
candidate....,
Hi
Kelly...
I am a campaign volunteer for Don Samuels
and I have been horrified at the disrespectful things two people have
been saying about Don as a person,
Am I
one of the two people saying "disrespectful" things about
Don Samuels? And if so, how is my honestly discussing Don's
qualifications; Or lack of same, disrespectful? and how is discussing
Don's positions on the issues disrespectful?
or the insults to Don's truly
grassroots campaign.
Looks
more like astroturf to me. BTW, how much has his "grassroots"
campaign spent to date?
I am a student at the U of MN in
Urban Studies and a Jordan resident for two years.
Back
when I was in school I was taught to question candidates for public
office, and truly debate their qualifications and stands on the
issues. Such questioning and discussion was considered one of the
duties of a good citizen. Pray tell, have they been teaching you
something different in college now?
This is the first campaign I have
volunteered for and the process has been very exciting. I urge
everyone who is interested in politics to try volunteering for a
candidate you believe in!
And I
have found a candidate I believe in, Olin Moore. I supported Don
Samuels until he failed to make the final round in the endorsement
process. The more I learn about him the gladder I am that I did not
join his campaign.
The campaign suggested
we not respond to slander because it is obvious there are two people
who are looking for a fight, rather than a respectful
debate.
You
should respond to slander. In fact, if you feel you have a case
against me I will happily guide you to the appropriate court and will
charitably loan you the filing fee if needed. Even if I never got paid
back, going to court against Don Samuels' campaign would be worth ten
times the filing fee in amusement value.
If anyone who list lurks or otherwise is
looking for information on the two candidates, please come to the
debate Thursday night at 7:00 PM (Holland Neighborhood Improvement
Association Discussion around the Central Ave. Corridor - development
at 24th & Central).
I'd
love to hear Don Samuels answer some questions, but I have to
work.
I have seen Don
in action. Don is capable of representing both North and
Northeast.
Debatable, but fortunately the Northeast doesn't have as much
of a crime problem to deal with so he'd have to move beyond being a
single issue candidate.
A post from Fred Markus a while
back regarding Don's view of Central Ave. is an example of how Don is
looking at NE.
It
sounded like a plan to put a small business paying minimum wage and no
benefits on every corner. Olin Moore clearly has the vision here- he
wants good paying jobs with benefits for the 3rd ward.
His activism speaks for itself -
Don has been and will be an advocate for children. He has organized
after school programs, worked with at-risk kids, and served as a
Curriculum Committee Chair. Don is not a famous name.
None of
the above qualifies Don Samuels to be 3rd ward councilman. And Don
Samuels got thousands of dollars in free media time just because he
was available for a sound bite in the middle of a riot. Don campaigns
like he's running for Sheriff instead of Council Member, and I
wouldn't support him for either.
However, he does possess a unique
set of experiences that qualify him for service. To find out more
visit his web site at
www.donsamuels.org.
Yeh, I
been there- left me with more questions than answers.

Jordan

Sluyter, standing up for Olin Moore in Hawthorne
