Regarding the Anti-War Resolution to be introduced today:
To those who say: it is not germain to Minneapolis, I disagree.
Minneapolis residents will be sent to fight and possibly die in Iraq.
Minneapolis residents and their families and the city will lose income
because they are sent to fight and possibly die in Iraq. Minneapolis
residents, who will already be facing higher taxes due to reductions in
state aid, will also see reductions in federal aid because of our tax
dollars spent to prosecute this war. The continuing plunge of the stock
market over war jitters is affecting the retirement and savings of many a
Minneapolis resident. Increased energy prices caused by war and owing to
our continued reliance on oil will affect EVERY Minneapolis resident. It is
germain in very basic and very real ways.
To those who say it will make no difference, I disagree.
The only POSSIBLE way to make a difference is to dissent in every possible
non-violent form. People march and plant signs on their lawn, they where
buttons and bumper stickers, they write letters, and they contact their
elected representatives. Representatives who are sympathetic, object in
every possible way they can, including resolutions and public
pronouncements. Collectively, it ALL makes a difference. The polls clearly
show that as opposition has visibly increased, general support for this war
has decreased.
To CMs Zimmerman and Zerby, thank you. To the rest of the City Council, do
what you know is right and best for the city and its residents. Vote a
resounding "YEA" to this resolution. Future generations will thank you for
it.

they seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall - think of it,
