I believe Joe Biernat was in the real estate business, but that didn't work out so well. ;) Anyway, congrats to everyone who worked so hard in the 3rd. As always, I wonder about the game behind the game. Did the Dziedzic folks vote for labor-endorsed Moore, or for Samuels to clear the deck in the new 3rd Ward for next election, since Samuels lives in the 5th for '05? Also, very little has been made of Natalie Johnson Lee endorsing Samuels - a an interesting move considering her Green affiliation and that Samuels is being touted in some quarters as a DFL opponent for her... I must also observe that this was a big win for many of the same insurgent DFL organizers behind R.T. In '01, they beat organized labor and Sayles Belton and '03 they beat organized labor and a DFL endorsee in a two-thirds northeast district in a low-turnout special election. The story may not be that the DFL party is kaput, but that, a generation after Vietnam remade the DFL statewide, the DFL is remaking itself again in Minneapolis.
