Vicky Say's: How many other list members are getting tax free cash from the City?
It's a pretty sad state of affairs when a city has to pay people to live there - or maybe the politicians are just buying votes.
Vanessa say's: Vicky, I think at one time you and your husband managed Riverside Plaza, and the high-rise apartments at Cedar and Riverside. You made tunes of "subsidies" money while under your management. I'd like to know what changed your mind about "subsidies"? Was it before or after alleged mismanagement and the inability to manage such a large and complex project? At the end of your email it say's - one of the givers, not takers....What may I ask that you give to? with all the bashing that comes from your post, it is hard to believe that you are giver, correct me if I wrong, and if I am, then please forgive me, and I will post an apologies for you.
Anne Candless say's: Are you suggesting that being poor is an excuse for not conforming to
housing regulations?
Vanessa say's: No! So many people are pushed into buying a home. So many people are crying that everyone needs to own their home. But, no one really takes time with that person to let them know it is a life long commitment, and here's what needs to be done if you are going to own your home. Education, education and education......
Anne say's: Perhaps, you feel that old cars parked in back yards for years (yes, years) is a cultural thing?
Vanessa say's first of all, I did not say anything about a cultural thing. So who or whom are you speaking of? About the car's, well there could be many reasons for cars being park for years. Does it make it my business, nope! do I care, yes! People hold on to thing's for many reasons, probate, death, wishful thinking on bringing the cars back to life. You know, like some of us women, we tend to hold on to a size three in our closets, knowing full well, that we will never see that size again, yet we hold to them.
Chris Johnson say's: And I'd further explain that "being able to afford to own a home" means
more than just being able to afford buying it in the first place, and making the mortgage payments. If a person can't afford to maintain their property, including the yard, to minimum standards, then they
can't afford to own the property.
Vanessa say's: Okay, so when a person buy's their house, they are capable of affording the house and all the responsibilities that go along with it. But, job's are lost, or maybe even a death in family, that has thrown a family into turmoil. Are you saying that a person has to be psychic, to see down to road? You may say, that people need to save for such emergencies, well what if that person did save and in order to survive has depleted all their saving's... what about this type of homeowner's... Judge ye not, less ye be judged.
It just seems to me, that everyone wants to fight crime, decent neighborhoods, etc... they are very vocal and passionate. However, when issues such as hardships come about, then it's back to blaming and shaming. Some of things mentioned, is part of underlying issues, when these issues are not addressed, you end up with crime and disrespect for community.
Case in point, sometime ago, many people reported drug addict's; prostitution occurring in the neighborhoods. Police was often times called out, and arrest's were made, but, the same people came out again. Then a decision was made to combine chemical rehab, and PRIDE, for outreaching. Arrest's went down, and people were helped out of the way of life by concentrating on the issues, that brought them to that point.
What is wrong with a little compassion and reserved judgment until the bigger picture is clearer. What would you do to feed your family, if you had no extended family; resources; Hennepin county being a hoop with no end in sight, or being degraded and treated less than human, because you are seeking aid.

2nd post for today..................................I'm outta here
To help the community, one "HAS" to look at the underlying issues that affect them. OTherwise, it like a dog trying to catch his own tail......
