Here's what I meant by my somewhat clumsy point: I am constantly amused by the conformity of rebels. Think spiky-haired punks who look like they stepped out of a Clash album; what was original, startling, and refreshingly risque in 1978 is now almost as rigid - maybe moreso - than a corporate dress code. (I realize there's a certain "classic" appeal that has grown up, though.) In the same way, I find artwork that's supposed to subvert OBEY appearing from coast-to-coast - and persisting from year-to-year to have a certain obedience of its own. Maybe that's part of the joke, but it diminishes the impact for me. True originality would yield a diversity of forms, including a Mpls-specific one. Maybe I've missed it? I guess in the context of subversive messages, I'm not a "big-box" kind of guy. And I fully cop to the idea that I wouldn't like a homegrown version either. David Brauer King Field TEMPORARY REMINDER: 1. Don't feed the troll! Ignore obvious flame-bait. 2. If you don't like what's being discussed here, don't complain - change the subject (Mpls-specific, of course.) ________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - A City-focused Civic Discussion - Mn E-Democracy Post messages to: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
