The most out of place animal I've ever seen in an urban area was what 
appeared to be a lynx that my wife and I spotted in the car's headlights 
and then watched as it disappeared into the brush on the driver's side 
of the car one night in St. Paul on Irvine Avenue while descending 
Cathedral Hill / Ramsey Hill (can some St. Paulite correct me?).

We only saw it for about 20 seconds or so, and only for a few seconds 
from a distance in the headlights before we got closer and peared at it 
in the darkness.  The fur and body shape did not look right for a lynx 
to me -- looked more like a small, bob-tailed mountain lion (short, 
tawny fur) , but it had large, tufted erect ears and broad face.

Maybe someone's exotic pet got away?

The plethora of raccoons, chipmunks, squirrels and crows in my 
neighborhood are probably common everywhere by now.
