If we are still on track, the TEA-21 federal dollars, I believe somewhere in the neighborhood of $750,000 are still available to pay for a brand new off road bike path that will stretch nearly 3 miles along Victory Drive to the flag pole, then east along Victory Memorial Parkway to the Mississippi river. This will also include rest stops, drinking water, shelters, and improved lighting.
Does anyone know if the Met council has submitted a master plan as specified by Minnesota statute in order to qualify for the matching funds needed to make this project a reality? I understand a citizens advisory council will be formed in 2004 to address this and hopefully to make the appropriate recommendations in order to maximize the efficient use of these scarce dollars.
What a wonderful opportunity to christen this new path and to celebrate the hidden jewel that is the northwest corner of Minneapolis by incorporating it into a Minneapolis Bike Tour.
