Samuels and Johnson Lee
This contrast just shows how superficial something like skin color is. Samuels should take this opportunity to make that point. History and experience are far more important. Plus...you know RACE is nothing but a taxonomy invented by some scientists centuries ago. It is under attack now because there just might not be enough DIFFERENT to justify dividing homo sapiens up that way. It was a might CONVENIENT system to those who wanted the division in order to justify one race ruling all others. If I were scientists of all those other white-invented races, I'd just attack the system and say it has no more validity.

Cost of Living
Doesn't matter where the Cub is. At least the advertized prices have to be the same. But this does intrigue me. Maybe I'll price out my typical shopping in and out of the city. Also, the city sales tax is half a percent. It isn't going to affect much. But people should check out the Sperling site. It shows the whole cost of living lower in some suburbs. It isnt just insurance and food. It seems to be everything. Now this is a puzzle since retailers seems to have flocked to a place where they can charge customers LESS. That sort of confounds the notion that business chases higher markups. And it bears some investigation by Minneapolis authorities. They need to know why business wants to be out there, yet it is giving BETTER deals to the suburban consumer. As for Mr. Kotvis' hypotheses, the only Cub in Minneapolis is in Longfellow which is not a "poor neighborhood". You'll have to look at other grocery companies to make a comparison.

Teachers
Look the teachers have already taken a pay freeze. And it is false that people aren't getting raises. They had a story in today's paper that said local raises, exclusive of executive (where they are WHOPPING despite bad times) workers, were in the 3 percent range. Now, a teacher looks at that, looks at his freeze, and he wonders what society really thinks about education. Congress just got a raise. Write them if you think it is greedy to want one. I think frankly militance is going to have to spread to all workers if they don't want to be screwed by managers who think nothing of taking raises themselves while denying them to the people who do the work.
