I've not been to the site this article spoke of. I've not met John Martin.

The quoted statement from Councilman Samuels troubles me:

"I would like it if he sent me his resume, references."

Does that mean that if anyone wants to make a difference in Ward 3 and get
the blessing of Mr. Samuels, they have to send him their references and
resume? If that's the case, why not go for background and credit checks
too?

Has Mr. Martin tried to work with various groups to get such an effort off
the ground? Working with other groups in the area could help him realize
his idea faster than "camping out."

If it's that dangerous, how will your daughter get from the other side of
the neighborhood to the teen center and then from the teen center to home?

What's the plan when the gangstas (oops, that's slang, I meant: a member
of an organized group of criminals) decide to make the center their new
hangout.

A teen center is a wonderful idea. There is more than just building it and
be done with it. There is management, maintenance, funding, etc. How will
those issues be addressed?

Mr. Samuels said he'll sit outside from morning til dust each time someone
gets killed by bullets in his Ward. Now Mr. Martin wants to camp out until
the center is built. I admire both their tenacity -- bundle up, Minnesota
winter coming.
