One of the women who worked to get the saunas in
Longfellow closed was a Whittier resident who had a
business in Longfellow by the sauna. She was in fact a
Whittier warrior who worked over here to help get rid
of the prostitutes and crack dealers here. She was
well seasoned when the fight to get rid of the saunas
in Longfellow started. But, I am not stealing any
thunder from the Longfellow folks.

Longfellow invested a great deal of NRP money into
crime and safety initiatives in the neighborhood. They
built extensive block club networks and have done many
other things. Things like the "Lights on Longfellow"
program, workshops for personal and home safety, home
security grants, crime alert networks etc. I think
these things helps to make Longfellow a "quick
response" neighborhood.
