While it may not be an implicit right in the constitution somewhere, this city would be a down right sad barren prairie town without them. I think our big and small business community is pretty much what separates us from all the small rural communities around us and contributes to the reason so many people live in Minneapolis as opposed to the small rural towns around us. Business provides jobs. People who need them live near businesses that have them. It's pretty simple.
While I think we need some oversight on the siting of businesses and some regulations over how businesses operate once they are open in Minneapolis, I think there was pretty overwhelming consent that the current system of over regulation is broken and needs fixing. By and large it was a major issue in the last election and I believe that was one of the biggest premises under which the city formed the new CPED structure.
