I was astounded to read that, "In FACT, the actions of the neighborhood involve sacred rights preserved in the constitution."!!??
Really? I am assuming we did not mean the U.S. Constitution or any of the Amendments. I must have missed the part about the rights of neighborhood groups so I re-read my copy and still couldn't find it. Perhaps someone could tell me where, precisely that information it is located. Failing that, perhaps someone could tell me exactly what other law, statute, ordinance, etc. it was which granted neighborhood groups the "sacred" right to prevent a legitimate business from operating in a commercial district for which it meets the zoning requirements. Unfortunately, I am afraid that this attitude is truly indicative of many people living in (and holding office) in this great city. They actually believe that they have somehow been granted the "right" to force their views and opinions on others. This is quite different from upholding existing laws or even creating new ones. Thank about it, if an organized group of people, acting outside of existing laws, can prohibit a legitimate business from locating in a commercial district because they don't "like" it, who is going to stop them from deciding what color paint is appropriate for YOUR house. Or perhaps they will decide that it is YOU who really doesn't "fit" in their neighborhood. Our freedom is being assailed daily, by conservatives and liberals, at every level of government. We should be very careful to preserve, what little bit of liberty that we have left.
