WM: The "winning" falls apart when the consequence of no government is anarchy. We can snarffle all we want about how government spends money--and government deserves such criticism much of the time--but, as citizens, we have signed on to have a government.Jim Mork wrote: "The only difference from the way business takes money and government takes money is that we elect officials collectively." Mark V. Anderson wrote: "It's government whose services we are forced to buy -- it truly does TAKE our money." .....and the winner is Mark V Anderson. Private transactions are VOLUNTARY. Government uses the power of FORCE to redistribute wealth.
I'm not all that thrilled about the way my taxes have jumped while the appraisal on my house has likewise jumped and will continue to jump. I could make a big stink about not having reproduced I should not have to pay for schools, for example. However, I do want a quality of life that includes some peace and quiet and thousands of kids running around without schooling to train them is a worse picture by far.
If you haven't missed a meal; if you sleep clean, safe, warm, and dry; if you are educated--therefore privileged; if you have work for your hands and mind to do, then you have what you need and can share the surplus with others.
If we are seen to share we cut down on resentment and lessen the chances for revolution which is chaotic. Who wants that?
