Thankfully WizardMarks, you don't get to decide what I need. Only a

WM: Victoria Heller makes the mistakes many of us do--the difference between what we need and what we would prefer. I doubt there is one person on this list who does not have more economically than 85% of the people on this planet. Since the census of the planet topped 5 billion recently, that means we're in the privileged 15% of the human race.

From what she has said on this list Victoria Heller has more than many another on the list. So maybe she's in the top 10% or 12%. Don't know, don't care. What I do care about is the notion that the government takes money away from her or you or me by force. That is obviously untrue. They take a cut, just like a stock broker takes a cut. The cut is for services provided and to amass enough to pay for big projects. We can argue all day about the necessity of some projects--like roads, wars, welfare, education, and on and on--and we do. But the fact remains that once you've tried being a non-person so as to have no taxes, no work, no this, not that what have you got? Pretty damn little, that's what. Ask me, I've tried it. It was fun for a minute, but got very old, very quick.
So, go ahead, Victoria Heller, call me a tyrant for pointing out the difference between necessity and preference, it still comes down to the same thing. We are privileged. Most folks are not. Any surplus we have or a portion thereof can be shared out.
Otherwise, you get few choices--like going to join the Yanimamo, perhaps, if they'll have you.
