Here is copy of the job search for the new Chief of Police for Minneapolis. If
someone you know is interested, they are encouraged to apply. The deadline is
October 27th. A copy of the search brochure is available at the attached link.

An interesting note: One requirement of the new chief is at least 10+ years of
at executive command experience. If literally interpreted, it would seem to
shut out most, if not all, of the internal candidates.

The job search also makes notice of the fact that the Mayor is seeking a
variance from the MN State public employee salary restrictions. It begs the
question: Why, in light of the citys current budget, is Minneapolis willing to
spend nearly $250,000 to employee two chiefs of police?

The Parks Director of Public Safety and the MPD Police Chiefs job have
essentially the same mission. Both are asked to reduce crime, collaborate with
the community and other criminal justice system partners, and to keep our city
safe and secure.

Granted, city charter changes would be needed. Currently the two separate
police departments are funded from two separate taxing authorities. But why
continue to fragment job function and the public safety mission? Combine the
job, combine the police departments and save money (perhaps to hire new diverse
officers).

Would appreciate other list members opinions on their new police chief.
