Growth
I dont want to grow as a city. Name a city LARGER than Minneapolis that you would want to live in. The fact is that there is a limit beyond which the problems of cities cannot really be managed. Since the 1970s, the people who have been attracted to Minneapolis have brought more problems than solutions. I only want growth when the opposite happens. As to people who commute 50 miles, WHY bother commuting 50 miles? Why WOULD they go that far to a city for which some on this list show so little liking or respect? I think a 50-mile commute is a proof of foolishness, not wisdom.

Jail Assault
When I read the story, my thought was Assaulting a prisoner certainly fits the establish pattern. But SEXUAL? Do we have dont ask, dont tell among the jailkeepers? Anyway, this brings out once against the vindictive factor in American justice. It ISNT about protecting the population. If they cared about that, theyd try to avoid stuff that sends a worse person out than they got.

Superintendent.
Once again Minneapolis is burdened with UNWANTED ADVICE from all over the map. This morning Strib letters column was full of letters. Not ONE was a Minneapolis resident/taxpayer. And now we get the same thing here from other suburbanites. Hey, people, you PAY the cost, you get to call the tune. Im a childless Minneapolis resident. I am the kind of person paying most of the cost. I dont think we CARE that much what suburbanites think about Jennings withdrawal. We care about the parents of the school children because without their support, the kids are doomed. But the peanut gallery? No way. This is just like all the advice we got about building Pohlads stadium. We know these people dont care about Minneapolis. Proof? They voted for Pawlenty.

On a related note, here is a quote borrowed from the web page for the School Board:
The Board of Education began using policy governance as a framework for its work in March 2001. Policy governance commits board members to work as a team to set goals for the district, monitor implementation and results, and provide greater outreach to parents and the community. To better engage the community, several board meetings each year will be held in schools. The board's intent is to provide the opportunity for a two-way dialogue with the community on specific policy issues.

Now aint that FUNNY. Looks like the Board VIOLATED ITS OWN POLICY with the Jennings appointment. Moreover, the people posting here that theres nothing in the ordinances either forgot to mention theres something in the POLICY (or they were being sneaky). Finally, member Schapiro is not an educator or even an advocate. Hes a small business owner. I guess that explains why he loved Jennings so much.
