Hmmmmmmm.....
Lets see.....
Portland, Oregon 500,000
Seattle, Washington 500,000
Milwaukee, Wisconsin 950,000
Minneapolis, Minnesota 350,000

Been there, done those, all had good and bad points.
Are they better than here? Depends on point of view.
Minneapolis is a great place to live, and that is why I live IN Minneapolis.

Growth
I don't want to "grow" as a city. Name a city LARGER than Minneapolis that
you would want to live in. The fact is that there is a limit beyond which
the problems of cities cannot really be managed. Since the 1970s, the
people who have been attracted to Minneapolis have brought more problems
than solutions. I only want "growth" when the opposite happens. As to
people who commute 50 miles, WHY bother commuting 50 miles? Why WOULD they
go that far to a city for which some on this list show so little liking or
respect? I think a 50-mile commute is a proof of foolishness, not wisdom.
