CM Zerby has now pushed through "sweeping" rental housing in SE Mpls:

The fire last month "started on the front porch and the only accidental
cause that couldn't be eliminated was careless smoking." CM Benson asked
the obvious question: "What are we going to do next? Are we going to ban
smoking in the Second Ward?" That ban might be a logical response.
However, CM Zerby appears to be playing politics, not looking for solutions.

Guess what CM Zerby will find? Over occupancy. We all know it. We all see
it. The city of Mpls limits occupancy to THREE unrelated folk living in a
single housing unit -- even mansions with 8 bedrooms are limited to 3
unrelated people.

Prediction. During this sweep, CM Zerby will cause:

1) Many students to move. The ones left behind will have astronomical
monthly rent.

2) Students will move to communities away from the University and drive to
school. We really need more cars on campus.

3) The Landlords have a contract to provide housing. It is possible the
tenants sue the landlord for specific performance. It is unclear to me what
the courts would do with such a lawsuit (since both parties signed an
illegal contract).

CM Zimmerman said it best: "It seems to me what is happening is a knee-jerk
reaction to a perceived problem that played out in the press."

CM Zerby thinks that a crackdown -- on a clearly discriminatory law -- is
good for his constituents. I wonder if this will start a voting campaign on
the U of M campus? When is CM Zerby up for election?

P.S. I own no property in SE, this will not affect me.
