Hi Jim,

Right now I have one (son) in high school, DeLaSalle and just graduated one from same last year, she is at Drake U in Des Moines. We had considered public school for both kids but chose private school because my kids were not allowed to attend school in their neighborhood, they would be bused across town to the northside.Spending 4 hours a day on a bus was not our idea of good use of time or resources.Even though there were openings at Ann Sullivan (3blocks away) my kids were not allowed this as one of our school choices. So we opted for private school and were happy to pay for good education. I am alot like you when it comes to money and if we had been allowed to attend our neighborhood schools I guess I would have felt better about school levies and referendums. Many people object to private school as religious indoctrination but this is only from people who have never really bothered to compare. Like you I don't enjoy throwing money down the drain for poor education results. Private schools make better use of their money in more ways than just test results which by the way are not the only way to measure education. My argument is that it is time to change the way we fund education. I believe that it is time for people with kids in public school to pay more and expect more, those that don't have kids pay in public school are fair shared  or can opt out. I have more to say but enough for now.

I still have the scar thank you...

I started to say, "have you ever been cut with a sword but thought I better not in case it was not you.

So how many kids are you paying for the schooling of?

Has working around those cops made you into a republican so that you do not appreciate public schools and the civic responsibility for public education? Or are you just cheap and do not like paying taxes?

While being a Democrat I have to admit I do not like public school and also am cheap. I like getting something for my money.

My kids are all out of school for a few years, and I do not have grandchildren (that I know about), so I am also not very enamored with paying for piss poor education for someone else's kids.

Well good to talk to you, or type to you.  I will look forward to seeing you write some more on this list.

I agree with Dan McGuire up to a point that private schools should not discriminate with public money, but as a parent with children in private school I should have the option of having my money that I pay in school levies and property tax used for paying for private school. So I am paying twice, once for other kids to attend public school and once again for my kids attending private school. Many argue that sending my kids to private school is my option but having to pay for school referendums and levies is not my option. So I am for school vouchers, it is an option long overdue.
