Just thought I'd add my two cents worth. I have one son left in the
Minneaplis school system. I am very unhappy with much of what is passing as
education here and if I had to do it over again, I would would make very
different choices. Since he is graduating this year we will ride it out.

Ben--I absolutely believe that that the bus ride from Longfellow to the
north side might take one and a half to two hours. When my youngest was
entering kindergarten (at Sullivan) I was asked to sign him up for the bus.
I explained that we lived two short blocks away and would not need to use
the bus. (If I stood at the corner, I could probably throw a stone and hit
the school.).

A couple of weeks before the school year started, I received a letter in the
mail, from the school, explaining that my son had been signed up for the bus
and his stop was at the corner. When I read the schedule, I was dumbfounded
to see that his bus ride would be 35 minutes. Please remember that we live
"two" short blocks from the school. His stop was the first and then the bus
would "meander" around, finally arriving at the school. I walked down to
the school and asked that he be removed from the bus schedule. They just
didn't get it.

Eva--South High no longer sends students home who don't have their ID's.
They report to the office and use their student number to check in.
