The Mayor is very willing to talk to anyone about issues or concerns relevant to the City.
The best way get time with the Mayor (rather than trying arrange a personal appointment on the Issues List) is to do one of two things: First, the Mayor regularly hosts open houses when individuals (no media) can speak directly with the Mayor. The next open house will be on January 28, 2004 from 12 - 1 here in City Hall, 350 S. Fifth Street, Room 333; Second, all requests for media interviews should be directed to the Mayor's press secretary, Laura Sether, at 612/673-2109.
Thank you.

Now, if the Mayor does not have time to do an interview with me or anybody else. I would hope he would post to the list. He has done this in the past. I remember his post about the Loppet.

Somehow I'm just not very impressed with R.T. Rybak's availability to the public. One hour, for as many people as can squeeze into the room, 7 weeks from now? How often does he do this?
If you're from the media, you might actually be able to get your own appointment, instead of having to fight to get a word in edgewise during a 60-minute lunch scheduled every month or so. But Laura Sether will decide that.
How busy can the guy be? He's the mayor, not the city manager. It's a weak-mayor system, so he's not even tied up with the city council, right? I'd like to see his appointment book. I suspect there's some gross inefficiencies there.
If I were mayor, I'd be spending as much of time with the citizens of this city as possible. It's the best way to find out what the important issues are, and to hear creative solutions to problems that are unlikely to come from inside the establishment. Hard problems are rarely solved by conventional, in the box thinking. Besides, the buy-in and support is magnitudes better when the ideas come from the stakeholders, rather than being imposed on them. This is basic stuff for successful organizations. It's in hundreds of textbooks and popular books on strategies for success. I shouldn't need to mention it here, but apparently its connection to civic and municipal success (as organized efforts themselves) is not being made by some people who ought to be making that connection.
