I'd stipulate (and I'm sure McManus would stipulate) that his jump from
Dayton, Ohio to Minnepolis is because it is a professional challenge as
well as for "quality of life" and family reasons.

EY: Actually, I'd rather see McManus directly address this question. It's a legitimate question for City Council Members to ask - and let him address it.

So, Eva, asking questions and ascertaining veracity is now the same as
discrediting?

Discrediting wasn't the right word. Your post was expanding on Mark Anderson's point about Street Cops - while avoiding his point about whether McManus was an effective manager. I objected to the way you used G Anderson's column in this case - in my opinion, the the mention of street cops in that column was in a different context than what Mark Anderson referred to in his post.

So when you say all flash and no substance and that he hadn't stayed in
Dayton long enough to follow through on his "ambitious reforms", which definition
of the words substance and follow through are you using, because it looks to me
(and to the selection committee, Mayor, 6 council members and a host of
community groups that he is about substance and follow through.
6 council members? Well he needs to convince a 7th to get confirmed.

Finally, as a gay citizen, I implore Council members Scott Benson, Gary
Schiff and Robert Lilligren to move beyond their pernicious identity
politics and follow the example of several leaders from the local black
community. Although many of them were not happy with Mayor Rybak's
selection process (refer to highlights from the Minneapolis Observer,
published in yesterday's <Pulse>) they've come to support McManus's
nomination after a dispassionate, even-handed and mature review of his
record. They put many of our gay and lesbian citizens (pouting because
one of their own didn't make the final cut) to shame. I hope that in the
end, Benson, Schiff and Lilligren will show more maturity, though at this
point I'm not very hopeful.

EY: I think it's a bit much to attribute all Lubinski's support on the city council to "identity politics."

I also think the whole thing saying that because Lubinski and Gerold are internal candidates, they will be like John Laux is another red herring.

I'd also be interested in more specifics about what Peter Schmitz's beef with Lubinski over ISAG was.
