Coincidentally, from Hennepin County Commissioner Peter McLaughlin's latest
e-memo to constituents:

Testing New Technology to Clean Up Garbage Incinerator

Hennepin County will work with Bloomington-based EnviroScrub Technologies to
reduce further the amount of air pollutants emitted by the Hennepin Energy
Resources Company (HERC) garbage incinerator. The incinerator turns 365,000
tons of garbage a year into electricity that is sold to Xcel Energy for use
in this market.

EnviroScrub Technologies has developed a new technology called the Pahlman
process that is able to capture three major air pollutants created by
coal-fired power plants. Hennepin County and EnvirorScrub will test this
technology on the garbage incinerator over the next year before getting a
comprehensive report on the effectiveness of the process in early 2005.
