I know that a lot of shelters just do no have the space for items...but here
are some good places to check out. MAKE SURE YOU CALL BEFORE BRINGING ITEMS.
ONE OF THE PROBLEMS WE WOULD RUN INTO AT THE VARIOUS SHELTERS I HAVE WORKED AT
IS PEOPLE JUST LEAVING ITEMS THAT WE THEN HAD TO FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO WITH.
It takes up much time and energy for shelter staff if they are given items
that they cannot use, do not have space for or are not in good shape.
St. Stephens' shelter and St. Stephens also has a free clothes closet
(both are on 21st and Clinton in the rectory) 612-874-9292
Our Savior's on 24th and Chicago- worth checking to see what they take
these days
The Aliveness Project--- My place of work donates food but the project may
need other types of donations as well
Youthlink/Project Offstreets
KOLA- street outreach with American Indian Housing- I believe they would
take blankets and other gear.
The Salvation Army (at least when I worked there) did not allow us to
take donations as they want them to go to their stores for resale.
People Inc.- Patrick Woods is one of their outreach workers to folks who
camp out. They may take blankets and other items.
Listening House in St. Paul-- they are in the basement of Mary Hall- right
next to Dorothy Day center-- when I worked at Mary Hall, listening house had
supplies of socks, etc for people.
Elim Tranistional Housing-
Emma Norton Residence in St. Paul
The Brian Coyle Center
Project 504 may be a good resoure to contact for other names of places.
