When I lived in Mpls, this was one of my issues as well: it was a little disconcerting to have cars slow down when passing the stop on Chicago & Lake to see if I was one of the prostitutes just finishing a late-night shift or if I had any dime-bags for sale.

Here in the 'hood we have little or no functional bus service. The Washington Avenue line only runs during weekday rush hour, and the Lyndale Avenue line is rife with muggers. From my most humble abode here in the middle of gang turf there is no route out that does not pass through at least one area of gang activity. Thusly one needs either speed or firearms to safely escape, so I am forced to commute by motor vehicle.
