Going to a memorial service after a man has died on the street is not good enough. For the Mayor to go and simply say how sad it is...is not good enough.
It is not just sad--- it is a social crime.
So, I expect Mayor Rybak to respond to his constituents, and place a priority on ending homelessness and putting in place a concrete plan.
He seem tireless when it comes to doing this for a new stadium.

While homeless shelters are not the single solution to homelessness, having adequate shelters for the bitterly cold months of January and February seem like only the humane thing to do. I also don't know if having had such shelters would have saved this man's life or not. Would he have been in a shelter that night and not caught fire?
It seems that there is a shortage of shelter space on those cold nights, though. How many people could fit into 30,000 square feet of safe, heated space? The Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board has been sitting on such a space ever since they moved into their new HQ building last year. They plan to lease it out, but have no prospects at present. Why not use it as shelter at least to get through the coldest weather?
I'm sure the future boats in the future boat showroom for the future marina won't care, after all.
