Although there's many social & economic factors stacked against it happening in the near future, I'd love to see it. There's a certain societal honesty about it that seems very appealing to me.

That's a very eloquent way to put it, Dennis. And I agree.

With a few more break-out movements like the one in San Francisco, it might turn into an unstoppable grass-roots tidal wave, too.

Incidentally, Sandoval County, just north of Albuquerque, New Mexico, is now issuing marriage licenses to gay couples based on similar legal reasoning: state law defines marriage as a contract between contracting parties, and does not mention gender. What does Minnesota's Constitution and law say? Maybe it's already legal here. If there's any gray area at all on the matter, I think Minneapolis ought to follow San Francisco's lead.
