I spent some time thinking about Vicky Heller's claim that we "have
given up many of our individual rights.....for the "good" of the whole".

The four that she mentions are blatantly false! Chain or locally owned
restaurant - my choice! Private, public, home school - my choice! Big
car, small car - my choice! Shop at a mall, neighborhood store,
downtown - my choice! And in Minneapolis as well as surrounding
communities, we have lots of choices for restaurants, schools,
cars/trucks, and shopping places.

I cannot think of a single right that the "liberal elitists" have
sacrificed for the public good! Oh, I suppose that I have lost the
right to drive a tank down Nicollet Ave., and I cannot operate a
restaurant without those pesky health and safety inspections. That
right to build a mall wherever and however I want was sacrificed when
they made me go and get permits. Damn liberals even made my give up my
right to swindle unsuspecting folks when they forced me to get a license
to sell real estate or securities!

On the other hand, I see conservative activists expending considerable
effort to limit the rights of women to decide about pregnancy and to
prevent gay and lesbian people from exercising their right to marry. We
are seeing a massive attempt by conservatives to limit the right to
legal counsel, to limit the right to free speech, and to limit the right
of assembly all in the name of "homeland security"!

That Minneapolis remains a bastion of choices for virtually every kind
of legal commercial activity is a testament to the wisdom of liberal
values!

Subject: [Mpls] chains good or bad?

Mark Wilde asks:

"What I hear from many people is that chain
resturants are a bad and should be stopped from
opening. "

Vicky offers one answer:

The liberal elitists in Minneapolis know what's best for you. You
can't be trusted to make your own decisions. Though proclaiming to be
"pro-choice" - they are not.

Never mind where you want to eat, they will decide.
Never mind where you want your children to be educated, they will
decide.
Never mind what vehicle you want to drive, they will decide.
Never mind where you want to shop, they will decide.

In case you haven't noticed, you have given up many of your individual
rights.....for the "good" of the whole.
