Hey, capitalist hype aside, I like Dairy Queen. The DQ
in Elliot Park got closed when they built East Village
and the one on Franklin got closed when they started
assembling sites for Portland Village. For a lot of
inner-city kids on bikes or foot it was quick access
to cheap Ice Cream. It's way under a buck for a cone.

I also like Sebastian Joe's and Sonny's. Both locally
owned and operated. But, not cheap by any stretch of
the imagination. I can afford $3 bucks for a "gourmet"
ice cream cone. Many kids in my neighborhood cannot
afford that. Yes we have the irritating Ice Cream
Truck that drives through the hood playing off key
music through a bullhorn but their ice cream doesn't
hold a candle to DQ.

At least DQ is headquartered in Minnesota. I guess I
would like to see a concession that is affordable to
everyone, including the kids in my neighborhood that
travel by greenway to get to the lakes. If that's a
DQ, so be it.
