It makes me sad when discussions like this on any issue have moved so far to the right, Perhaps my paying attention to Mr. Strom is part of the problem, but he's hard to ignore and evidence would suggest that he has the Govenor's ear (though hopefully not on this issue).
In any case, his newest statement is based on assumptions regarding what mass transit is for:
I won't list them here, but I can add more purposes for mass transit:
Reducing urban sprawl, reducing pollution, livable/walkable communities, reducing energy consumption - and that's just a few off the top of my head.
The issue, though, isn't whether we want mass transit. Clearly, we do. What it comes down to is whether we'll invest enough in mass transit to make it a usable system. That investment includes making it a reasonable career choice - a job with decent pay and good benefits.
