Well, I knew last Wednesday's community update on the fire department at
Northeast Park was a heated meeting, but I certainly hope we didn't scare
Chief Forte away! : - ) Plenty of fiery questions were asked of the chief
(by community folks as well as firefighters) about whether emergency
response times had slipped, given the cuts of the past year to the fire
department/fire equipment. The meeting got even hotter when the fire chief
said he was being asked to cut another $2 million from his department this
year and that there were no guarantees that Minneapolis could place the
required number of firefighters on rigs as recommended by national
standards.
