Why do suburban buses only go one direction? They drop people off in Minneapolis, and then what? Do they go back out to the suburbs empty? If they do, this seems like a complete waste.WM: Running deadhead is always a waste because a bus gets 3 miles/gallon of fuel.
I really don't know how the routes work, so maybe someone can educate me on this. The point is, isn't there a way to bus people out to the suburbs without making any extra trips?WM: Yes there is. It means research into where and when jobs in the suburbs are (Three shifts? Two? One?) and having a route include those stops. It means accepting the notion that all jobs are not 9 to 5 and planning accordingly. Luckily, routing is all done by computer these days so it's way easier than it had been.
