TRASH TO TREASURE
An Adventure in Imagination

In the United States, 32 truckloads of waste are created for every truckload of goods produced. In fact, 90% of things made in America are thrown away within one year. But as we all know, there is no away! Creative solutions to deal with waste is the raison d'tre behind the Trash to Treasure competition. Heres how it works:

Pull something out of the waste stream and turn it into something of value. Find anything that has been tossed into your home trash container, the office waste bin, a dumpster at a construction site . . . wherever you find trash. Then, turn this trashpieces/parts/duplicateswhatever moves you, and create an object of function or beautyor even humoror maybe a piece of art. There are no limitations to size or shape of your new object.

These newly-created treasures will be displayed during the first day of EnvironDesign8 conference at The Minneapolis Convention Center. A team of jurors will select the most imaginative entries and they and their creators will be photographed and acknowledged in the June 2004 issue of Interiors & Sources magazine. A silent auction of these treasures will be held during EnvironDesign with proceeds going to The Green Institute to assist them in creating jobs, improving the quality of life and enhancing the urban environment in inner-city Minneapolis.

All entrants are invited to attend the evening reception on April 22 in the Product Learning Center at EnvironDesign8 for the announcement of the winning bids as well as the jurors choices in four categories of competition: Best of Show, Funky Trash, Classy Trash and Treasured Trash. In addition, the Peoples Choice award will be determined by a popular vote.
