This school board consultant nonsense is really spiraling out of control.

The price tag for the consultant's "services" will be $155,000-$190,000, which will
not come from tax dollars, according to district officials.

But according to Steve Brandt in the Star Trib, the district still needs to raise
money to cover the full fee. Not only that, but they're squandering pop money that I
thought was supposed to pay for school supplies (I wouldn't buy things from school
vending machines, if I were you--unless you like consultants). Also, they are
squandering charitable donations.

Mr. Himmelman posted a note about the district's Request for proposals. He's right.
Though I believe that the district shouldn't have a consultant at all, in any bidding
process, you need to attempt to garner the highest possible number of proposals/bids.
That is the only way to safeguard against cronyism and overpayment. If there is a
shortage of bids, work to get more bids, don't hire a buddy.

Of course, I bet that this was the plan. Having a buddy as your consultant helps when
you want to restrict or prevent genuine public input.

The Financing Plan includes Squandering Charitable Donations & Pop Money" at
