There were over 100 applicants. The weeding out process was done in secret 
until the final 3 were selected because, according to the board, some of the 
candidates might be driven away by a more open process.

Given the board's experience with hiring David Jennings, then the 
reorganization plan, one would think that the board would opt for a more open process, 
especially given the decision to include Joseph Olchefske on that short list of 
finalists.

In my opinion Dr. King is the best equipped to lead a process of change in 
the school system in the direction it needs to go in order to make a quality 
public education accessible to all on an equal basis. I think she did the best 
job of outlining a general approach to solving the problems which confront the 
district, has the strongest background in teaching and public school 
administration, and demonstrated a better understanding of the issues than the other 
two 
candidates, in my opinion.
