The smoking ban vote is this Friday, is that right? We'll, here's my two cents: I am not in favor of an ordinance banning smoking downtown. I'm against the idea of government, any level of government, taking more authority on to itself.
At the Federal level our privacy and human rights are being taken away because the government says it wants to protect us. The City has done an excellent job standing up to that sort of thing by dismissing the Patriot Act, and now they need to do it again. A smoking ban in the downtown area would put an unneccessary burden on business owners and impose another level of control on citizens. We need to preserve our freedom to make choices.
