Two things:

First of all, it eliminates cars racing pedestrians for getting to turn.

Second of all, cars that want to take a right on red do stop . . . but they
stop sticking out into the intersection, way over the crosswalk. So, my
point is, if an intersectino such as mine is supposedly supposed to cater
to pedestrians, how come I have to weave my way in and out of cars sitting
in my crosswalk?

(Another note on this matter: the city just repainted all the marking on
the streets in my neighborhood . . . except the crosswalks. I think that
says something about priorities.)

I understand -- I think it should be prohibited by sign more often.
