"This would have the added beneficial effect of encouraging young student revelers
to leave their cars at home when going out for a night of partying, thus
reducing traffic congestion in the downtown area and taking off the streets
a few drivers who are probably well over the legal limit for driving!"
The problem with this is that the hours of operation of the LRT are not conducive. The last train leaves downtown for south Minneapolis at 1:10, well before a 2:00 bar closing. If this city were trully sophisticated and interested in keeping people from driving drunk, the LRT (and buses) would run 24/7.
