Vicky Heller replies: Yes, they are, and they'll need ten to twenty more years to repair the damage. Also remember that many of the present council members were also part of the "former regime." All you have to do is study the first two tables in the financial reports that I linked. You will see that, regardless of cause, expenditures still exceed revenues by $24 million. I'm sure you'll agree that spending more than you take in cannot go on forever. I'm sure you'll also agree that the only way to reduce debt (and interest payments) is to spend LESS than you take in. [Leurquin]: Oh, and for taxes going up, until you have paid the outrageous residential property taxes in Wisconsin, keep it quiet. I paid $2,400 in taxes on a $60,000 duplex when I lived in Milwaukee. [Heller]: Wisconsin doesn't subsidize homeowners (voters) by penalizing businesses. Wisconsin understands that businesses create jobs, and jobs create taxpayers. You may have noticed that Minnesota figured this out too. [Leurquin]: Vicky, please try and not get our shorts up in a bunch by quoting numbers without more of the facts. [Heller]: This is a good criticism, but I only have so much time to devote to public education. Besides, the U of M needs your tuition. Vicky Heller North Oaks and Cedar Riverside REMINDERS: 1.
