[TB] Amazing the number of people that don't realize that a civilized
society requires certain rules with which its members are expected to
comply.

A civilized society has protection from the government by the government of
private property. To ban smoking in common places, public buildings,
airports, hospitals etc. would constitute a rule, to tell a private citizen
to ban smoking from their private property is trodding on rights. A citizen
can decide if they want a smoke free/smoking establishment. There should be
the choice of two permits issued by the city. If the owner decides
smoking...you don't go there...just like other establishments that you would
not go to by choice. Habits or not, everyone has rights and yes, smokers had
a free rein which resulted in this mess. But the pendulum swung too far for
correction. After my mother died of lung cancer from smoking, I received a
box of smokes from the cigarette companies wishing her the best! That is
where government control can be established along with education of people
not to smoke. Bar/restuarant owners, knowing that no one wishes to be in a
smokey environment could choose the the nonsmoking permit while there are
some smokey saloons that the patrons wish to go out in flame. So be
it.....Live and let live.
