I will certainly agree that the union has looked very bad in this, but I have it from a very reliable source at 807 that it was, indeed, the administration that initiated the realignment mess and not without some precognition of the likely course of events. (One board member tried to duck responsibility by suggesting that they could not have known how bad it was going to be, which is nonsense.) The district is claiming very loudly and often that they are only following the law when, in fact, the discretion in this matter rested with the administration and not the union. I can offer no explanation why the union has not been more vocal in their own defense and has, as David accurately points out, been stuck on the seniority thing.
