I am happy to see the city pushing this issue forward. Some folks have commented that there are some lights they feel do not have a properly timed yellow. That wouldn't surprise me given the number of traffic lights in the city. My personal experience is that most not only are properly timed but regularly have drivers who could've stopped but choose to interpret the yellow as a "step on it" signal.
I haven't seen details on the system. I hope that it's implemented with a few key features. The first being installing street signs clearly stating the intersection has traffic cameras. Those cameras should be taking photos of both the driver and the vehicle. The cameras should only be giving tickets to those vehicles that are entering the intersection after the light has turned red. My wish list is that the system would automatically run the plates of violating cars and alert authorities if it's a stolen vehicle. Allen Graetz Lowry Hill REMINDERS: 1.
