Whoa Cowboy. You don't get to throw bombs at folk's heads and expect to
walk away untouched. One, Phyllis did her time. Two, good people sometimes
do really dumb things. She broke the law, but let's not start accusing her
of systematically silencing speech or writing love sonnets to Satan. As for
replacing her, like it or not, she is the popularly elected person from the
DFL to run for that seat. Yanking her off the ticket in favor of someone
appointed by a DFL committee is about the least democratic thing I can think
of to do. Got a problem, show up at your caucuses in two years and
challenge her.

As for calling DFL supporters unethical, which is exactly what you've done,
put a cork in it. This is not a forum for base attacks, and if you can't
speak your mind without personal attacks I recommend you evaluate your own
life choices.

Later.

Subject: [Mpls] Kahn's Crime

Kahn: Election Will Not Change
Minnesota Daily
http://www.mndaily.com/articles/2004/09/27/10394

"After she pleaded guilty Thursday to stealing
campaign fliers from New Hope, Minn., residents'
door steps, Rep. Phyllis Kahn, DFL-Minneapolis,
said Friday she does not think her conviction
will affect the upcoming election."

I happen to agree with Ms. Kahn that her crime
will have no affect on the election, but the
real question is whether it should. I believe
that it should. I believe that someone with
the morality that would allow them to remove
another candidate's campaign literature should not
hold office. I also think that many other
people in my neighborhood have the same type
of morality: that as long as you are doing
"good works" the tactics you use to achieve
them are justified, so they will reelect Ms. Kahn.
I also believe that Ms. Kahn's reelection will
accurately reflect the ethical standards of
the DFL. It's not as though they couldn't
replace Ms. Kahn with a more palatable candidate.
The DFL could endorse a write-in candidate and they
would still win in this precinct. Finally, I believe
that if Ms. Kahn was an honorable person she
would step aside and allow a more ethical person
to represent the voters. Running for office
again despite her conviction is Ms. Kahn's real
crime.
