Peter Vevang writes-
I am growing a bit tired of the Republican "victimology". As if the big bad liberals were out to get them, and were sucking the liberty out of citizens with vampiric powers of corruption. Whenever there is a problem, they blame the liberals, and look for yet another opportunity to enrich themselves from their solution. Its true that Minneapolis is solid blue. But we are surrounded in a sea of red. The State House, the Governor, the US President, the US Senate, The US House and the US Supreme Court, and virtually all of the media outlets are all held by Republicans who lean further to the right with each passing day. And yet it is still the fault of the "liberals" that we are losing our freedoms? Somehow, the liberals are still "victimizing" America? We have had a decade of increasing Republican dominance. If freedom is in decline it is happening under a Republican watch.

As I see it, Minneapolis is a bastion of freedom when compared to many other parts of the country. I am free to speak my mind here. I am free to live my life as I choose without having to worry about the government watching my every move. I can pick up my phone and talk to my city council person, and hear directly from the people who run my city. The people have a lot of power here. I feel that the city has protected my rights better than other parts of the state and most of the rest of the country. I can go to meetings and tell my leaders face to face, what I think. Personal rights are still important here. We respect average citizens here in Minneapolis. Most people I know that are in government here in Minneapolis are honest, conscientious and upstanding citizens that I am proud of. I don't think it is fair to tar these good people.

There is a moral to this story. Minneapolis has it right. The wingers have it wrong.
