Gregory Luce wrote: With our community school being Hale and the option to choose Ramsey, Barton, or others, I'd love to hear perspectives, particularly from parents of existing school kids. But, I'm not so interested in debating the pros and cons of a particular pedagogy or reliving the debate about arts in the schools.
Mark Anderson replies: If I were in your shoes the choice would be obvious; go with Hale. I think community schools are a good idea regardless of academic achievement. Kids can play with their school friends without being trucked across town. Parents have a lot easier time finding other parents to make common cause with to change their school when the other parents are also their neighbors. And you have the bonus with Hale of having very good academic achievement. I tried to get my son into Field School because I didn't like the middle school options for him, partly because Field School is also a great academic school. Field is the middle school paired with Hale, so Hale kids automatically go there after fourth grade. Mark V Anderson Bancroft REMINDERS: 1. Be civil!
