I appreciate the chance to correct a very inaccurate statement that was reported on the list in posts about the Stonewall discussion yesterday. I have had the priviledge of working with Deputy Chief Sharon Lubinski in many communities in this city in many situations and she has extraordinary abilities to reach out to include everyone. I have said this in public and private situations, and am proud that Deputy Chief Lubinski has been promoted to direct all patrol operations in the city.
I did not make the statement below and it does not reflect my beliefs.
R.T. Rybak
If this quote isn't true - then I believe Megan Thomas owes Mayor Rybak an apology.
Thank you Mayor for responding quickly and directly. I've posted your response on my blog here:

As I said yesterday, if this quote wasn't accurate, Megan Thomas owes the Mayor an apology. She also owes Stonewall DFL board members an appology for passing on disinformation when the board was deliberating on whether to give the Mayor an acceptable rating.
Contrast this with Natalie Johnson Lee <http://lloydletta.blogspot.com/2004/12/natalie-johnson-lee-and-bachmann.html>continuing her silence about whether the anti-gay Bob Battle expressed her views accurately in <http://lloydletta.blogspot.com/2004/12/does-minneapolis-5th-ward-councilwoman.html>his article supporting Bachmann and the Bachmann amendment, or whether she was expressing her own views when she spoke on behalf of the Green Party in response to Bush's State of the Union. When I talked to Johnson Lee, she <http://lloydletta.blogspot.com/2004/12/natalie-johnson-lee-and-bachmann.html>disputed the <http://lloydletta.blogspot.com/2004/12/minneapolis-issues-responses-regarding.html>account of Darrell Gerber, the 5th District Green Party Chair. At the Minneapolis Issues gathering in January, 8th Ward Council Member Robert Lilligren told me he had talked to Natalie Johnson Lee about the Bob Battle article.
Bob Halfhill, a member of Lavender Greens also wrote Natalie Johnson Lee a <http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg34273.html>strongly worded letter urging her to go public and clarify her position. Halfhill told me that Natalie Johnson Lee never responded to his letter.
Paul Skrbec's corrections to my notes on the Stonewall DFL were also published on my blog along with the Stonewall Press Release here:

I have read Mayor Rybak's response to correct a comment incorrectly attributed to him. I am irritated that he even has to make this effort to correct what was so clearly an untrue statement.
EY: I posted this quote on the list because this was being used by Megan Thomas - a Stonewall DFL board member - to argue against RT Rybak getting an acceptable rating from the caucus. Rybak quickly answered on the record - and this issue is over. There's nothing new about this tactic with campaigns.
Gary Schiff spoke at the Stonewall general membership meeting in strong opposition to Rybak getting an acceptable rating - and my understanding is it was the police chief issue that got Schiff so upset. Megan Thomas referred me to Schiff when I asked her about the source of the quote. So the next time I see Gary Schiff, I will be asking him more about this.
