On the shooting at Nye's, the news reports were that the perp went to his car and got his gun and came back and shot Billy Walsh (FOUR times -- in the back). He was licensed to carry a handgun and his getting it from his car and carrying it to Nye's is exactly what he was allowed to do by the gun law.

For those who love (and hate) the Minnesota gun law, you'll love the NEXT law that the NRA wants to pass. It's called a "No Retreat" law. Presently, if you are accosted on the street by a perp, you are required to first try to "retreat" before resorting to the use of deadly force. (The one exception is one's home. No one is required to "retreat" from their own home.) That seems like a reasonable approach -- but not according to the NRA. They want the law changed so that you are never required to retreat before using deadly force. Basically, if you feel threatened, you can whip out your rod, first thing, and blow the perp away. Florida has already passed the law and the NRA has served notice that it wants a "No Retreat" law everywhere.

Somehow, I don't think the NRA will be satisfied until gunfights in the streets are a daily occurrence everywhere.

This is a civilized country and city -- at least I thought it was. In a civilized country the people depend on the police to deal with situations that might require deadly force and not depend upon "self-help." Depending on "self-help" is the rule of a primitive, and possibly not even civilized, society. Let's ban handguns -- period.
