This is paranoia on the part of Rybak supporters. It has no basis in fact. There are always people who want to be in public office. All of them know other people in public office. That they know each other does not equate to that they agree with each other. The implication above is that McLaughlin would "take back the town" and "run it like the old days." McLaughlin is some type of bogeyman in this scenario. Not at all true. McLaughlin's winning would mean he would take the town, not take it back since he never had it, and run it like McLaughlin would run it. IMO, McLaughlin would do a much better job than Rybak for several reasons: McLaughlin's more experienced and better seasoned, while Rybak is a neophyte; McLaughlin's bright and proven, while Rybak hasn't done such a good job and I hold up the mess that is MCDA-morphed-into-CPED as first and most damaging to the city among his failures. McLaughlin's got really sturdy sticktoitiveness, i.e. light rail, at least a ten-year endeavor so far, but, more importantly, one which required him to maneuver among competing interests, including those luddites who don't think light rail is even necessary. Considering the cost of the initial outlay, that is quite something as an accomplishment for any politician. McLaughlin is better at assessing situations and choosing strategies based on those better assessments. To put a cap on this, McLaughlin has better sense than to think you can jump into being an effective mayor of a large city when you have zero experience in politics (heading the citizen's airport noise group does not qualify, particularly since Rybak seems to have dropped that endeavor like a hot potato).
